Wakeboarder riding behind a boat on a tree-lined lake

Lake Lanier, Georgia

The Lanier
rider's guide

Pull Pro Shop is minutes from the water in Cumming. Here is how to pack, gear up and ride safe on your home lake.

Before you launch

Three things to check

Lake level and conditions

Lanier is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the water level moves through the year. Low water exposes hazards near shore and in coves, so check before you go.

Georgia boating rules

Georgia sets rules on life jackets, boater education, towing and wake distances. Read the current rules from Georgia DNR before your first day out.

Wake-day checklist

Before you leave the dock

Safety

  • A U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket, in the right size, for every person on board.
  • Children under 13 wearing their life jacket whenever the boat is moving, as Georgia law requires.
  • A spotter watching the rider the whole time, in addition to the driver.
  • Plenty of room from docks, shorelines, swimmers and other boats when you tow or surf.
  • Engine off before anyone gets on or off the swim platform.

This is a general checklist, not legal advice. Georgia DNR boater education covers the current requirements.

Gear to pack

  • Boards, bindings, fins and a spare wake or surf rope.
  • Life jackets and comp vests, plus a helmet for kids and new riders.
  • A wetsuit or neoprene top for spring and fall water.
  • Sunglasses with a floating strap, a hat and sunscreen.
  • Ballast bags and wake-shaping gear if you are surfing.
  • Towels, water and a dry bag for phones and keys.
